2023 ASIA PACIFIC CXO SUSTAINABILITY REPORT: FINDINGS AND RECOMMENDATIONS

🎯This report analyzes findings from Deloitte's 2023 Global CxO Sustainability Survey of over 500 C-level executives across Asia Pacific. It identifies key trends in how regional businesses address climate change and sustainability.
👉Climate remains a top priority issue for companies in APAC, ranked ahead of the economic outlook and other challenges. Most (98%) expect climate change to impact strategies and operations over the next three years significantly. Nearly half (44%) have experienced extreme heat directly in the past year.
👉While CxOs feel broad pressure to act from all stakeholder groups, there remains a gap between intentions and impactful actions. The top actions taken relate to energy efficiency and sustainable materials. More complex changes like supplier criteria, facility relocation, and linking executive pay to sustainability lag behind.
👉Measuring environmental impact and short-term pressures are key barriers cited. Only 32% believe the private sector is "very serious" about addressing climate change. However, optimism also runs high, with 86% feeling positive the world will take sufficient climate steps.
👉The report provides clear recommendations on how businesses can embed climate goals in core strategies, take credible actions to build trust, empower boards, enable broader stakeholder participation, consider long-term opportunities, and collaborate for systems change. It serves as a valuable guide for accelerating progress towards sustainability and decarbonization goals across Asia Pacific.
